Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose seafood dog treats over beef or chicken?

Seafood dog treats are rich in Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids, essential nutrients not typically found in beef or chicken. These supplements are beneficial for your dog’s health, supporting skin, coat, and joint wellness.

Why choose Australian and New Zealand seafood?

Australian and New Zealand seafood are renowned for quality and sustainability, with strict regulations and clean waters ensuring low-pollutant and flavorful treats for your dog.

Why dehydrated and not freeze dried?

Recent research suggests that freeze-drying causes cell damage due to ice crystals. Our gentler dehydration method better preserves the bioavailability of nutrients, making our treats more nutritious.

Would seafood dog treats help my dog with seizures?

Absolutely! Fatty fish rich in Omega-3 acids might lessen or even eliminate epileptic seizures in dogs. However, it’s crucial to consult with your vet for further guidance on how seafood dog treats can be beneficial.

What sets our seafood dog treats apart from the rest?

We only feed our dog what we eat ourselves. That’s why all our treats are human grade. For example, our Whitebait Dog Treats are made from human grade fish such as Sandy Sprat, unlike other brands that use non human grade fish such as fishing bait.

Finding a Healthy Alternative to Processed Treats

Alfie’s Treatos was inspired by our English Cocker Spaniel Alfie when he was just a baby. Too often Alfie would get an upset stomach from eating highly processed treats. We wanted to provide him with nutritious, delicious, high-value minimally processed treats with no added preservatives.

Spreading the Joy of Australian Seafood Globally

Alfie’s Treatos was born from this idea, to share with all dog lovers around the world the benefits of the highest quality, nutritious, and sustainable seafood from Australia and New Zealand’s pristine waters.

Why whitebait fish is good for dogs

There are a number of reasons why whitebait fish is a great treat for dogs. These include:

  1. High in Omega-3s such as EPA and DHA – a crucial component for canine health, these fatty acids play a crucial in supporting a dog’s cognitive function, reducing inflammation, and promoting a healthy coat and skin.
  2. High in protein – dogs require protein for proper growth, maintenance, and repair of tissue. Fish is an excellent source of high-quality protein.
  3. Full of vitamins and minerals – vitamin D, and vitamin B12 are essential for bone health, energy, and metabolism. Minerals such as phosphorus, selenium, and iodine play vital roles in various bodily functions, including strong bones, proper muscle function, and a healthy immune system.

Why dehydrated fish is a great dog treat

Dehydrated fish is a great treat for dogs for a number of reasons:

  1. Crunchy texture – dogs love the satisfying crunch of dried fish, which provides them with mental stimulation and helps promote dental health.
  2. High protein content – dehydrated whitebait fish contain 4 times as much nutrition as fresh fish as the majority of the moisture has been removed.
  3. Easy to store and serve – With a long shelf life and no need for refrigeration, dehydrated fish can be easily broken into smaller pieces for training purposes.

Why Australian whitebait is the best treat for dogs

There are a number of benefits to feeding your dog Australian whitebait, such as:

  1. Cleaner water sources – Australia’s pristine waters offer a superior environment for fish, providing cleaner water sources free from pollutants.
  2. Wild-caught – Australian whitebait is wild-caught and not farmed. Wild-caught fish tend to have a more diverse diet such as algae and plankton, resulting in a broader range of nutrients.
  3. Sustainably caught – Choosing Australian caught contributes to sustainable fishing practices. Australia has very strict fishing practices which helps preserve the marine ecosystem.
